As a lead authority in renewable fuel, Guttman Renewables has closely followed the proposition of low-carbon fuel standard (LCFS) plans in states such as California, Washington, and Oregon. More recently, we were pleased to see Pennsylvania propose its own version of the initiative. Simply stated, an LCFS represents a governmental initiative mandating the increased use of low-emission fuel. More specifically, LCFS legislation directs a designated state agency to develop a system and timeline for meeting greenhouse gas reduction goals established by the Governor and legislature. LCFS typically delineates no policy on the amount or type of fuel used. The approval of an LCFS would introduce a new era of sustainability to our state—one in which Guttman Renewables stands ready to help our industries thrive.
For residents of the Keystone state, the propositioning of an LCFS suggests a major move toward sustainability on the horizon. From a high-level perspective, the potential passing of this legislation obviously would redefine how many industries and individuals in our state approach their day-to-day fueling processes, bringing biofuel to the forefront in areas that previously relied solely on more traditional fuels. Deeper implications exist, as well. Introduced by two Senate Republicans, the proposed bill shows that the call for carbon-reducing initiatives has crossed party lines into a wider political level of acceptance. This signals positive change in the future in terms of how our society views renewable energy, one that Guttman Renewables is pleased to see and encourages to grow.
As attitudes change and low-carbon mandates become a reality, Guttman Renewables has the capability to help all industries in Pennsylvania and the surrounding areas transition to renewable fuel in an affordable and efficient way.
